I'm sure many of you are coming down with the groggy cold/flu that is going around! I starting feeling crummy about two days ago and it is still lingering on! Being sick is annoying because it keeps you from doing activities that you would normally be able to do. I know even going to work has been a challenge but going to yoga, shopping or even taking a walk along the beach has not even crossed my mind because I have just wanted to go home and lay in bed! I just wanted to share a few tips to help you survive the sick season!

1. Stay hydrated!!! I know it may feel uncomfortable to drink any liquids but it is SO important to keep fluids in your system! Drink as much water as you can but also tea will help. Coconut water is another great option due to the fact that it will re hydrate you quickly and it is full of antioxidants. Strangely, my favorite drink to sip on when I am sick is Gatorade! I love the flavor which makes it easy to keep chugging.

2. Eat healthy foods: Chicken noodle soup is the classic remedy when people are sick. The soup contains vitamins, minerals, calories, proteins and is a great source of fluids and electrolytes! Oatmeal, yogurt, bananas, eggs, popsicles, ice cream, and avocados are other great foods to eat when sick because they are easy to swallow and won't cause discomfort. (Woot woot! An excuse to eat ice cream!) Also making a yummy smoothie is a great way to obtain nutrients and eat your favorite fruits and leafy greens. (Hint: add a little ginger to your smoothies or tea if you are experiencing nausea or an upset tummy).

3. Honey: This remedy is very common but honey i has potent antibacterial effects, likely because of its high content of antimicrobial compounds. Mix about half a teaspoon of honey with a warm glass of milk, water or a cup of tea. This is a will hydrate you and soothe any cough or itchy feeling in your throat.

4. Get lots of rest: This is so important...let your body and mind relax while you are recovering. Read a book, watch a movie, take a nap or listen to music all day! Your health is the most important so everything else can wait!

I hope these few tips will help you conquer the flu/cold season!
