Most of you have probably seen, Netflix released a new show called "13 Reasons Why" which has caught many viewers attention. The show brings attention to the impact of bullying and teen suicide. The show was based off a best-selling book written by Jay Asher. According to the show's IMBD 13 Reasons Why "follows teenager Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers a group of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) -his classmate and crush-who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah unfolds an emotional audio diary, detailing the thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, Thirteen Reasons Why weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect viewers".

This show affected my life and has made me want to get involved more with helping young people deal and cope with bullying. I want to encourage today's youth through their difficult times and be a listening ear to anybody that may need it.

I decided to become an advocate for teen suicide prevention and volunteer/ help in anyway that I can through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Obviously, everyone has the option to donate to the cause but I would rather take action and be directly involved with helping the youth. I am only twenty years old so I am hoping to come across approachable and willing to help young adults get through the rough times. You never know what may be going on in someone's life so it is important to be understanding, humble and demonstrate kindness through your words and actions.

If you would like to get involved in this incredible cause, please visit http://afsp.org/chapters to find leaders and events in your local area! You can also go to AFSP's main page to sign up for free in order to be an advocate.
